What you want to avoid is rewarding people for doing well on things that don’t further or support strategic goals. That is one of the reasons why a company may not have good results, yet employees are rated highly for their performance. Be sure that you have good alignment; that you have all your people making decisions, being evaluated, being rewarded for the support of the strategic plan, driving company growth, and keeping and maintaining your best customers.
